About Us

In 2002, the late Dr. Jack Crow, former Director of the “National High Magnetic Field Laboratory” (NHMFL) and Dr. Donavan Hall, a NHMFL research scientist, provided support and funding to start, “The Science Literacy Project” (TSLP). TLSP was established to encourage people to explore the wonders of math and science. Dr. Hall has since moved on to Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York and left Glover Jones, a research specialist at NHMFL, to carry on with this community project.  

Expanding services in 2004, TSLP formed a working relationship with Friends of FAMU Libraries lasting until 2007. The Friends of FAMU Libraries is a 501(c)(3) non-profit exempt organization.  

During 2007, TSLP restructured and changed its official name to Myliteracy.com to advance their presence using social media. TSLP’s restructuring allowed for information to be efficiently disseminated free to the public, as it relates to science, mathematics, engineering, health sciences, business, the arts and many other intriguing areas of interest via the internet.  

The “Margaret Byrd Jones Foundation, Inc.” (MBJF), Orlando, Florida, started supporting myliteracy.com in 2010 and proved to be an outstanding collaboration between two non-profit organizations. The MBJF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity established under the laws of the Internal Revenue Code. MBJF’s primary mission is to work with schoolgirls between the ages of 4 and 11.  

In an effort to identify with our non-profit supporters and donors, the myliteracy.com website name was changed to myliteracy.org in September 2010.  

Myliteracy.com reorganized in 2011 and applied for Florida non-profit corporation registration status with the State of Florida, Division of Corporations.  Our official corporate name is now Myliteracy, Inc., and operates under the domain name myliteracy.org.

In 2012, Myliteracy Inc. filed paperwork with the Internal Revenue Service and applied for 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity exempt status. Exempt status was granted in March 2014 and Myliteracy, Inc., is considered a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity established under the laws of the Internal Revenue Code, with an effective date of February/2011.  

A new education and literacy initiative with the “Jefferson County Retired Educators Association” (JCREA) started in March 2014 and lasted until the end of 2015.   

Wanting to participate in the local education and literacy sector, Myliteracy, Inc., agreed to become fiscal sponsor for the Howard Academy Educational Recreational Council (HAERC) in December/2014 and remained fiscal sponsor until HAERC applied for non-profit status. HAERC was granted 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity status in 2016 and our sponsor status has since ended.  

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to cutback our day-to-day operations until 2022. The Myliteracy, Inc., team is grateful for your support during these difficult times and we will continue the fight for literacy awareness.

In our general meeting, held in December/2021, our Board of Directors and Board of Members decided to restructure our board and streamline our projects for 2022 and prepare for a normal return to business in 2023. Our efforts continue in 2024 as we introduce "The Myliteracy, Inc., Rebranding Initiative (TMRI)."
